TRACED GOOD tells the story of an irrisistible passion for genuine products mainly made of pure materials Leather and Cashmir, combined with design and development of accessories manufactured traditionally and on a Fair Trade base.

Modern tanning processes of mass produced leather is  known to be extremely damaging to the environment. Nowadays we should all be aware of  Industralization catastrophes like in Kanpur, India: the self-proclaimed "Leather City of World" and a city of 3 million people. On the banks of the river Ganges, pollution levels were so high that despite an industry crisis, the pollution control board has decided to seal 49 high-polluting tanneries out of 404 in July 2009.

The mission of  TRACED GOOD is enabling and embracing a better understanding of improvement of clean leather and cashmir origins and tanning processes by selling a number of pure, authentic and fair Mens and Womens accessories. This will be realized by manufacturing and selling accessories with a Fair Trade and traced production and tanning process. By buying a product of TRACED GOOD you show directly your willingness and support to the creation and development of TRACED GOOD & improvement of the labour in factories and tanneries and their suppliers in Nepal and India. The vegetable tanned leather used for some accessories of  TRACED GOOD protects for example the environment in the Bagmati-Zone of Central Nepal by using no chemical tanning and less waste water.

Eco-Leather

Tracing the sources of Eco-leather brought us back in time to the ancient tradition of leather tanneries about 150 years ago in Europe and the Middle-East. At that time the tanner had at his disposal practically only oak and pine bark which he obtained from the neighboring woods.  We found, analysed and processed these same technics of leather tanning in the Himalaya, Nepal, in a small mountainvillage.  The bi-product leather is made by rural villagers in the Himalayan Mountains. Traditional tanning methods are used, making these leather skins one of the most possible environmentally friendly leather you can buy.

Environment

The leather used has been bought via Fair Trade prices. It has been fully checked on its genuine. The tanning is vegetably done which means less noxious chemicals used and reduction of waste water. TRACED GOOD heads for eliminating and replacing the most noxious elements in production processes which cause significant improvement of working circumstances of employees in leather factories.  The project is concerned to take into account the technologies currently applied and not just to consider the latest developments from research units. The use of cleaner technology (BATNEEC) for the production of leather and cashmir scarfs and other TRACED GOOD accessories can be defined as the environmentally and economically best practicable technology in the local area*  *BATNEEC = best available technology not entailing excessive cost.

Creation & improvement of labour

TRACED GOOD provides design, marketing, development and labour to low-income Nepalese craft producers. TRACED GOOD collaborates with associations and factories in Nepal, Kathmandu, which are a resource to advance and globally distribute work, for which they receive fair wages and generous benefits.  TRACED GOOD blends traditional craft with modern design and technology to suit market trends. TRACED GOOD want to take care of good labour conditions in our production. Therefore  TRACED GOOD has become a member of the Clean & Unique Association which has officially signed an agreement with Fair Wear Foundation (FWF) in November 2008. As a member we are held responsible for the rights and obligations related to the FWF membership. FWF verifies whether TRACED GOOD comply with the Code of Labour Practices, and provides support and knowledge. Read more at Fairwear.org.
